Speech: Saving Water

Your school is organising a Save Water Week. As the president of the Environment Club, you are invites to give a speech on ‘Saving Water’ during assembly.

When writing out your speech:

• you must use the notes given
• elaborate on the tips of saving water
• add any other relevant information
• write in not less than 150 words

 

     Good morning, headmaster, teachers and fellow students. In this glory morning, I am delighted to be given a golden opportunity to deliver a speech on ‘Saving Water’.

     As all of us know, water is essential in our daily life. We drink it, we use it to wash, to brush our teeth, water our plants and even to flush the toilet. In fact, 80% of our body is made up of water! It is really important not to waste it. Undeniably, if we are wasteful, we can easily run out of water. Therefore, I would like to share with you some easy water saving tips.

     First and foremost, we should practise turning off the tap while washing our hands and brushing our teeth. We can use a cup for rinsing our mouths. Do you all know that a running tap can waste over 6 litres of water per minute? Also, try to take shorter showers to save water. We can save up some water by turning off the tap when using soap. A four minute shower uses 2-4 gallons of water!

     Besides, always bear in mind not to run the hose while doing outdoor chores such as washing our cars, washing the outside of our houses or watering the garden. Instead, always use a pail of water. This simple practice of using a pail to wash our cars can save as much as 150 gallons of water!

     Last but not least, we can collect rain water for watering plants and doing ordinary washing jobs. This can be done by just using large tubs or by using pipes connecting the gutter to storage drums. Recycle and reuse water so that water does not go to waste. We must each do our part. I really hope all the easy water saving tips will be helpful to all of us.
